Using graphite in batteries greatly increases their storage

| Prices for graphite have surged 250% in the last few years due to the small number of operating graphite mines in the world as well as the fact that 70% of the operating graphite mines are controlled by China and the remaining 30% of mined graphite is kept in and used by the country of origin. The quality of flake graphite varies by grade and size. High grade, large flakes are preferable for quality, long lasting products. Demand for alternative energy sources, demand from industrial markets and other rapidly developing, new applications for graphite will increase demand over the next several years. Even though the U.S. and European Union state that graphite is in critical supply, it is predicted that annual flake graphite production will increase by six times the current rate by 2020. China has control of the majority of mined graphite and can determine when and how much graphite is realsed into the market, keeping demand high and stock prices up.
